About us

Time Yachts

A letter from the founders

There comes a point in life when time becomes more valuable than money. We founded Time Yachts on this very belief: time is our only true possession.

A superyacht offers something increasingly difficult to find: privacy, freedom and uninterrupted time. The freedom to go somewhere simply because you want to, to stay a little longer, or to change your plans entirely.

We believe every decision should reflect those intentions.

The yacht you choose, how you own it, where you keep it, the crew you appoint and the way it is managed should all serve the experience you want to have.

Yet there is an irony in traditional yacht ownership. Something acquired for freedom and pleasure can become another responsibility to manage: crew, maintenance, budgets, regulations, logistics.

We founded Time Yachts because we believe there is a more intelligent way to approach ownership. One that preserves the freedom it offers while ensuring the responsibilities behind it are handled with care and expertise.

There is no single approach to ownership that suits everyone. What matters is understanding how you intend to use your yacht and making considered decisions accordingly.

Every owner has a different idea of what they want from a yacht. For some, it is the freedom to travel without a fixed itinerary. For others, it is a familiar place to return to, a way to bring family and friends together, or the opportunity to spend a few exceptional weeks at sea each year.

This is the thinking behind Time Yachts.

Our role is to help clients make considered decisions about how they own and enjoy their yachts, and to take care of the complexities that follow. We believe owners should remain in control without the need to be involved in every operational decision.

We advise our clients on acquiring, structuring and managing their yachts, with an approach that recognises the value of both sole ownership and co-ownership. Our role is to understand what matters to each owner and ensure that the decisions made, from initial acquisition to the smallest operational details, remain consistent with their intentions.

Our philosophy is simple: own what matters, share what makes sense.

We bring together the right yachts, the right ownership structures and the right people to manage them. We value discretion, transparency and attention to detail, because trust in this business is earned through the way things are handled, not through promises.

Ultimately, we believe a yacht should add something meaningful to your life, without demanding more of it than necessary. The greatest privilege that success affords is not simply to own extraordinary things. It is the freedom to experience life on one’s own terms.

The best measure of our work is simple: when you step aboard, your attention is on where you are, who you’re with and what you want to do next, not on what it took to get there.

This is what we set out to achieve with Time Yachts.

Frequently asked questions

How does co-ownership work?
Each owner holds a beneficial interest in a dedicated yacht-owning company, typically 25% or 50%, with a defined annual use entitlement allocated through an advance calendar.
What are the ongoing operating costs?
Owners fund an approved annual budget covering common operating costs, a disclosed management fee and a ring-fenced capital reserve. Budgets are set conservatively, reported quarterly and reconciled to actual expenditure. Personal use costs are charged to the owner using the yacht.
Is the yacht chartered?
Our programmes are built around private use, and charter income is not assumed in any owner economics. If the owner, or all co-owners, agree to charter, we can arrange it through licensed charter partners, subject to the yacht's registration, insurance and tax position.
I already own a yacht. Can you help reduce my running costs?
Yes. We can find a compatible partner to share ownership and the annual operating cost, while you keep the share of ownership you choose. Or we can simply manage the yacht and charter the unused weeks for you, with no additional owners.
Who handles crew and vessel maintenance?
Time Yachts manages captain and crew recruitment, scheduled servicing, flag compliance, insurance and berth arrangements.

Kotor and the Bay of Kotor seen from the town's fortifications

The Journal · Destinations

Tivat, before
everyone else

14 October 2026 · 6 min read

In a fjord-like bay on Montenegro's Adriatic coast, a small town has become one of the Mediterranean's most quietly assured harbours. It is at its best when you arrive by sea.

The approach

The Bay of Kotor doesn't reveal itself all at once. From the open Adriatic, the coast looks like a single wall of mountain. Then the headlands part, a round stone fortress slides past to port, and the sea narrows into a long, winding inlet that feels more Norwegian than Mediterranean.

By the time the engines slow, the water has turned glass-still. Limestone peaks rise almost straight from the shoreline, and the light arrives late over the ridges. On the waterfront, the town is only beginning to wake.

This is Tivat. Fewer than ten thousand people live here, yet it sits at the heart of one of Europe's most remarkable landscapes: the Bay of Kotor, protected by UNESCO for its natural beauty and the history layered along its shores.

A country stepping out of the shadows

For most of the two decades since it became independent, Montenegro has lived in the shadow of its better-known neighbour, Croatia. That is changing. The country is smaller than many English counties, yet it holds five national parks: mountain ranges, ancient forests, glacial lakes, and in the far north the Tara River Canyon, one of the deepest gorges in the world.

It's a country of contrasts that sit unusually close together. You can spend a morning on the water and the afternoon in high mountains. Access is getting easier too: Fly Dubai now flies direct from Dubai to Tivat, roughly five hours away.

The harbour that reinvented a town

For much of the twentieth century, Tivat was a naval town, built around a shipyard on its waterfront. Today that same shoreline is Porto Montenegro, a superyacht marina lined with cafés, galleries and restaurants, where families stroll the promenade in the evening and the mountains glow pink behind the masts.

Visitors sometimes compare it to Monaco, but the comparison only goes so far. Tivat is smaller and slower, and still very much a working Adriatic town. Walk a few minutes along the water and the polish gives way to fishing boats, local cafés and long, unhurried lunches. Both sides of the town are part of its appeal.

A morning on the bay

The bay is best seen from the water, and the morning is the time to do it.

A short tender ride across the bay brings you to Our Lady of the Rocks, a small church on an islet off Perast. Local tradition says it was built by hand, as sailors and fishermen sank old ships and dropped stones in the same spot over generations until the island rose from the sea. From the water, the church's blue dome looks as if it is floating.

Further in lies Kotor itself, its old town wrapped in walls that climb the mountainside behind it. Arriving early, before the day's visitors, you can walk its stone lanes in near silence.

Afternoons at the edge of the bay

Towards the mouth of the bay, the Luštica peninsula feels a world away from the marina: olive groves, quiet villages and coves reachable only from the sea. Close by is the Blue Cave, where sunlight filtering through the water fills the cavern with an almost electric blue. Swimming there in the early afternoon, when the light is strongest, is one of the coast's great small pleasures.

Back towards town, the hillside village of Gornja Lastva offers a different kind of quiet. Its stone houses, narrow lanes and old churches look down over the whole bay, and in August the village hosts a summer festival of music, art and local food.

Where the coast is changing

New openings along the coast are bringing more attention. Mamula, the circular nineteenth-century fortress that guards the entrance to the bay, has been restored as a small island hotel. Further south, the fifteenth-century island village of Sveti Stefan, joined to the mainland by a narrow causeway, has reopened after a long refurbishment.

Inland, Durmitor National Park offers a day of jagged peaks, high meadows and the Tara Canyon, an easy counterpoint to days spent on the water.

Evening, at anchor

As the sun drops behind the ridges, the bay turns silver, then deep blue. Lights come on along the waterfront, one at a time. From the deck, the town is close enough to hear but far enough to feel entirely your own.

Tivat is changing quickly, and the secret is no longer quite a secret. For now, though, the bay still belongs to those who arrive slowly and early. The way to see it is from the water.

Time Yachts arranges itineraries throughout the Adriatic and the wider Mediterranean for its owners.
